Can summer really be over? If it is, we ended it in grand style with the August Picnic-in-the-Park hosted by Mike and Mona-Lisa Ryan. About 50 members and guests enjoyed the barbequed chicken and outstanding pot-luck selections. Thanks to the Ryans and their crew putting on this fine event.

The picnic shelter continues to get fine tuned and I would like to thank Cliff Lillybridge for his work in procuring and cleaning up the refrigerator and Gary Williams for his work with the stereo and PA system out there. Also, the money that was raised by the “Pig Roast in the Park” raffle was earmarked to the picnic shelter project and paid for the recently installed sun shades.

We all know it takes a lot of work to keep BYC functioning and I’m continually amazed at the amount of stuff that gets accomplished during the week here at the Club. Without getting into details I want to thank all of you that continuously give your time. From those that man the railway, to maintaining the wastewater system, to planting and watering plants, and to changing the trash bags in the outlying trash cans, etc. “Thank You”.

Bev and I just attended our first Junior Officer’s Ball at Rainier Yacht Club. These events are not only about having a good time with our counterparts but also learning events. It is very interesting to learn how the other clubs operate, both socially and from the organizational stand point. Believe me when I tell you that our Past Commodores aren’t lying when they tell you that you will have a good time going through the chairs and that BYC is indeed the envy of many a Puget Sound yacht club because of our wonderful facilities.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the October 9th Junior Officer’s Ball here at BYC. As Vice Commodore Longenecker has pointed out, these are fun, non-formal events. Please sign-up early so the committee, chaired by Cal and Connie Ormiston, can do their planning.

I’m pleased to announce that Babs Miller and Marilyn Venable have taken on the duties as our club stewards. You can look forward to may delicious treats following our meetings.
