 "Incidentally, it was in this year of 1934 that the By-Laws and constitution of the Junior Yacht Club were drawn up and the Junior Club actually started. This was done on July 9, 1934." [Source]

"On September 20, 1937, the B.Y.C. formally started the Junior Club for all kids under 21 years. Captain E. Watkins assumed the sponsorship of the Junior Club and it was very successful until the start of the war." [Source]

BYC sponsored its first Youth Summer Sailing Program in 2002. Two 1-week sessions (starting 15 July and 22 July 2002) were offered with space available for six kids per week and is considering doing it again in 2003! (As it turned out, the program doubled in size in 2003!)

As you can see, BYC's own Youth Sailing Program has "come a long way" since the early discussion stages two years ago in 2002. We are now in the process of creating a dedicated Web page which provides information about this program and can serve the program's aims more effectively. Please help us with content and design suggestions!

  • Seattle Sailing Foundation The Sailing Foundation's mission is to address the participation, teaching and creation of youth sailing programs in response to the needs of the community that are not served by other organizations. The Foundation reaches out to all youth no matter what race, color, creed or national origin. The ultimate goal: keep kids off the streets and on the water. The main goals of the organization include affordable access to boats, instruction, safety training and research, and racing.
