5 April 2004: It was announced at tonight's General Meeting by Cpt Leroy Armstrong that the Corrosion Committee will, at the end of the month, begin meeting with boat owners to discuss marine-corrosion-control related matters and conduct basic tests.

Mini-Seminars:

  1. 17 November 2003 (1900-1930): Marine Corrosion and Protection
  2. 15 December 2003 (1900-1930): Stray Currents

Ray Gorski
Committee Chair
(2003-04)
BYC is developing a corrosion control program with the hope that we can avoid or minimize damage to the underwater areas of the boats in our marina. Mr. Bob Ajerman will be at BYC on Monday, April 21, 2003. Bob is the author of BOAT & YACHT CORROSION CONTROL and has considerable experience in the field of corrosion control in boats and yachts.  [ Towline, April 2003]

    From Commodore Charles Billings:
Is there a way of getting the following link put on our web page? I
received my latest issue of Professional Boatbuilder Magazine in the
mail yesterday, and noted that the entire magazine is now on line. The
link below takes you to an excellent article on AC electrical for boats
regularly connected to shore power - Ground Fault Interrupted
        I ... thought it might
also interest many of our other members.
        Thanks,
        Charlie

  • What is Cathodic Protection and Why Does Your Boat or Yacht Need It? | Mirror Page Electrochemical corrosion of metals is one of the most destructive processes that affects a boat during its lifetime. Cathodic protection is designed to prevent corrosion by altering a metal's electrochemical characteristics through the application of electrical current.

  • Corrosion Testing [ www.marinemechanic.com/site/] "Bob Ajeman of Yacht Corrosion Consultants, a division of Professional Mariner, which manufactures battery chargers and other instruments, sent us a Corrosion Test Meter ($217.95), plus a Zinc Saver Galvanic Isolator ($54.95), which isolates your boat from others at the dock to maintain an AC safety ground and protect against galvanic corrosion and zinc loss. Also included was a copy of Aleman's book, Boat & Yacht Corrosion Control ($29.95)."
