Ahoy Mates!!!
It's that time of year again and we need to round up help for "parking
boats" as they arrive at BYC for the big weekend. We'll need people on
the docks starting around noon on Friday, 18 February, going to about 1800
(6pm).
I'd like at least four people for each two-hour period (1200-1400,
1400-1600, and 1600-1800). Please let me know what periods you can
support.
Thanks!

P.S. Please pass this on to other sailors!!! Gunter, please post on
website.

Formation of BYC Sail Race Team
- Like to get in some regular sailing, but don’t own a sailboat?
- Have a sailboat, but can’t justify the expense of competitive
sails and hardware, or find regular crew?
Well, we’ve got the team for you! We’re looking for 10-20 semi-serious
sailors who want to race on a regular basis, but are realistic enough to
know that they can’t make every race, or afford to properly equip a
competitive boat. Our first organizational meeting will be at 6:30
Monday, 01 November, just before our regular BYC meeting.
Eventually, we’d like to get a BYC boat in each class of every race in the
West Sound Sailing Association (WSSA) trophy series, as well as other
local races. And sailing with a team is a LOT more fun! For more info,
please contact Capt. Joe Payne at 792-1772, at this E-mail address, or
joe-payne@comcast.net
PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER BYC MEMBERS!!!!!!!

Subject: Fall Fun Regatta/Halloween Cruise
Hopefully, you have all read your Towline (AND YOUR WEBSITE! [editor]) and
are aware of the
BYC
Halloween Cruise at Port
Orchard Marina. Since this was scheduled on top
of our previously planned Fall Regatta (31 October), we are combining the
two with a race starting at the Port Orchard Marina breakwater and ending
at the Point Heron Light (off Manette). This will allow us to have a
little sailing fun on the return trip from Port Orchard.
For those of you who may not be able to attend the full weekend
festivities, please consider coming out for the race. We're planning on a
2-3 hour course. And crew members are always welcome! We'll hold a
pre-race skipper's meeting before the race and provide basic rules for
those of you who have never raced. The rules are pretty easy (and the
race committee is VERY flexible)!!!
Please pass this on to anyone not copied who might be interested, and I'm
always interested in updating my list of BYC sailor E-mail addresses.
Thanks!

Greetings All!!!
As many of you know, our Youth Sailing Program has been approved by the
E-committee and we are recruiting students now.
Our monthly Sail Regatta meeting is this Wednesday (6/19) at 7:00pm at BYC.
We need to work on scheduling volunteers for the two-weeks of class, as well as
other misc issues.
Also, the WSSA 'Round Blake Island Race is 29 June and BYC is the race sponsor.
We will need a little support for this race, primarily a fast boat
to keep track of the race participants. My boat, Hiaqua, will be at the
starting line off Manette at the Gazebo.
See you Wednesday!

We are going to have hamburgers at our house after the race on Sunday. It
will be open to anyone interested. 2717 Marine Drive.
Our first of six club races in the BYC Spring Series Regatta starts this
Sunday at 1300. No experience, handicap, or entry fees required!!! Just
come out for some good fun.
Our first race of the year was a blast with six boats, good wind, close
finishes in both classes, one loss of steering, and one mutiny. What more
can you ask for?!!!
Sign up at the clubhouse. We also need a committee boat. Anyone
interested, please contact me ASAP (and pass on to any interested power
boaters; points are awarded). Any interest in a potluck after the race?
Let me know ASAP.
Thanks!

Sail Regatta - March
2002
Our Sail Regatta is getting
organized with monthly meetings scheduled for the third Wednesday of each
month at 1900 in the main ballroom. All sailors, and anyone interested in
sailing, are invited to attend. The next meeting is March
20th.
Racing Season
BYC club racing starts this month with the
Ides of March Regatta on March 10th. New racers are
definitely invited. PHRF handicaps will be assigned and posted on the
board. BYC also offers an incremental handicap for follow-on races to
make everyone more competitive. The Ides of March Regatta will start at
1300 in Dyes Inlet. Please sign up at the Sail Regatta board in the
clubhouse. Dan Baker is organizing the event and Mike Knight has
volunteered to supply the Committee Boat. A complete race schedule is
available on our webpage and posted at the clubhouse.
Our Spring Series Regatta will begin
March 24th. The series consists of six races, all held on Dyes
Inlet and starting at 1300. Three races will be on Saturday and three on
Sunday. You may compete in any or all races. Each skipper's three best
finishes will be used to determine the series champion. A weighting
factor will be used based on the number of entries in each race.
Race #2 of the West Sound Sailing Association (WSSA)
Trophy Series is the 27th Annual Spring
Shakedown, sponsored by the Sinclair Inlet Yacht Club. The race
is March 16th and starts at 1100 off Port Orchard Marina
breakwater. Complete details are available on the BYC webpage (
) and also posted at the BYC clubhouse.
Youth Sailing Program
Several members have expressed an interest in a
youth sailing program. Captains Gunter Krumme, John Guju, Ed Schmid, and
Marks Danielson are working on a committee to determine the requirements,
format, etc. Please contact one of these gentlemen if you are interested
in helping out or have useful information.
Capt Charlene Carpenter has volunteered to lend us two
16-foot sailboats to get the program started. We have also started a
fund-raising effort with the sale of "Naviguessor" hats during
the Heavy Weather Regatta. In addition, we are in the process of
designing a dinghy rack for the club dinghy float to better organize these
boats and free up space on the end of the float for our sailboats. If
you're interested in helping out with this project, it counts for work
party time. Please contact me.

Our first Sail Regatta Meeting/Potluck was held 23 January. Thanks to
everyone who attended.
We finalized our race schedule. Please see our website
http://bremertonyachtclub.org/bycSailBoat.html for details. A suggestion
for opening up our races to non-BYC boats was given preliminary approval.
Please let me know your opinions on this issue. The first race of the
season is the "Ides of March" on 10 March. Please contact Dan Baker with
questions.
We are also now scheduled for a regular monthly Sail Regatta meeting on
the THIRD WEDNESDAY of each month in the BYC Main Ballroom at 7:00.
Please mark your calendars.
Youth Sailing Program: Ed Schmid, Mark Danielson, Gunter Krumme, and John
Guju have volunteered to investigate the various requirements and
challenges for this program. Please contact one of them with any info,
suggestions, or volunteers of assistance or equipment.
Other suggestions for future events include a "sailboat rodeo" with
non-speed related events, a sailboat predicted log race, and sail
rendezvous'' during the summer. Please let me know of your opinions and
experience.
Please pass this on to any other sailors not on the mailing list above and
ask them to send me an E-mail so I can add them to my distribution.
Thanks!
