We start this year out with four more log races over the next two months. Two of these are in-club races - the Novice Race on Sunday, Oct 8 and the BYC Past Commodores Cup on Sunday, Nov 19. All BYC members are encouraged to join in. Bring your friends along since we have a potluck in the clubhouse after these races. The Novice Race is open to all club members to sharpen your skills but awards will only be given to first time racers. You seasoned racers are requested to "persuade" fellow club members, who have yet to race, to come out for the Novice Race and give this sport a try. The contest descriptions will be posted in the wall box found in the clubhouse lounge about two weeks prior to a race. The International Power Boat Association (IPBA) is the "big daddy" umbrella log racing association in the Pacific Northwest. Under IPBA sanctioning, the major YCs around here each host one or more log races which are open to members from area boating organizations. Aside from meeting other NW boaters, one of the benefits gained from IPBA log race participation is the opportunity to visit other YCs and even some outstations where races are hosted. IPBA has two races remaining in 2006 which BYC members are invited to attend. Tacoma YC hosts their race on Saturday, Oct 7 followed by Port Orchard YC's Fall Round-Up log race the following weekend (Oct 13-15) with social events happening from Friday evening thru Sunday breakfast. Check out the IPBA website at ipbalogracing.org for information about each IPBA race. You'll find the descriptions, and registration forms for upcoming races. If you find you're somewhat curious about what log racing is all about, pls email me or give me a call at 377-6639. We have Big Brothers standing by to tell you more than you may ever want to know. Most importantly, Log Racing is a Social Event.
