From the BYC Bridge:
Over President's Day weekend in February is our annual Heavy Weather Race.
Be sure to keep checking the bulletin board in the lounge for the schedule
and signup sheets. The Vice Commodore has great plans for a fun filled
weekend which you do not want to miss. (
Commodore, Dec 2006)
Coming up before we know it will be another kind of “ Heavy Weather” being
the 16,17, 18 and 19th of February, this years theme it called
“Brem-a-loha” which will feature the presenting of Bremerton’s own
traditional folk dance the “Bremaluahula” please check out the BYC Home
Page for details of all the big “do-ins”.
(Vice Commodore, Dec 2006)
The first Major Event each year is the Heavy Weather Weekend – actually a
4 day weekend - running Friday February 16th through Monday February 19th.
This is the BIG Club event in which “all available hands” are strongly
urged to actively participate. The Clubhouse and the floats will be
inundated with visitors. We will be visited by Log Racers, Observers,
party goers and general spectators, from The Grand XIV Clubs, other Puget
Sound Yacht Clubs, plus a few individuals who just love to race. The
visitor docks are filled to capacity, and dozens of boats are rafted out
from special timbers placed on both sides of the Club Cover. Opportunities
abound for you to assist (and earn points) in keeping the Heavy Weather
Race as the “Largest Predicted Log Race” in the Country.

QUICK INDEX:
Invitation sent to Area Yacht Clubs
October 3, 2004
Dear Commodore,
Bremerton Yacht Club would like to invite you to participate in
our Heavy Weather Predicted Log Race, and to announce the theme for our
infamous BYC Heavy Weather Skit Contest. For those of you that have not
attended Heavy Weather Weekend, you have missed an unusual and fun
experience. I hope you and representatives of your club will be able to
join us this year. The Heavy Weather events will be held on Presidents
Day Weekend, February 18-20, 2005.
In past years, we have hosted as many as 160 racers in our Heavy
Weather Predicted Log Race, and we would like to see it return to its
former glory. We need your help in encouraging your racers and
non-racers to get out on the water and compete. Our Race Chairman,
Capt. John Rosendale, 360-479-7676, will be sending out more information
on the race in the near future.
After an exciting day of Predicted Log Racing, the skit
competition will be held Saturday evening. This is usually a "standing
room only" extravaganza. Each participating club produces a skit around
the theme. After the skits have been presented, an unbiased, sober and
honorable panel of judges selects a winner. The winning club is awarded
the coveted "Rubber Clam Gun" which can be displayed in the club's trophy
case until the next Heavy Weather Weekend when it should be returned to
BYC. In addition, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers will receive a
permanent trophy to take home to their respective clubs.
The theme for 2005 is "Cabaret". Skits should be enjoyable,
humorous, and presented in good taste. We have both CD and Cassette Tape
players as well as wireless microphones should you need them for your
performance. Attached, please find the standing skit rules and judging
criteria. Let your imagination go wild, be creative, and come enjoy some
Academy Award performances.
Upon completion of the skit competition, BYC will host its Heavy
Weather Saturday Night Dance for your enjoyment.
We are excited about "Heavy Weather", and look forward to seeing
you and your members here at BYC in February.
If you or your members have any questions, please contact me via
Email at ceb@oz.net, or by phone 360-895-3825 (home) or 360-710-5419
(mobile).
Sincerely,
Charles E. Billings

TO BYC MEMBERS:
"Heavy Weather Weekend (Feb 18-20) is fast approaching. Remember, this
BYC
sponsored Predicted Log Race weekend is an "all hands event". Be sure to
respond in the affirmative when asked to help, or better yet, step up and
volunteer to be a part of
this BIG weekend [doc]. The success of Heavy
Weather
Weekend is a reflection of the effort put forth by ALL of the members of
BYC, not just a few. It's not too late to do your part by getting
involved. There are many opportunities including "timber" installation and
removal, fire watch, parking lot attendant, Galley help, Skit participant,
just to name a few. For you newer members, talk to your sponsor, a member
of the Bridge, or any club member to ask how you can get involved."
(V/C Billings, 15 Dec 2004)
"For those who plan to enter the Saturday Heavy Weather Skit competition,
the theme for the skits will be 'CABARET'. We hope to see many, if not
all, clubs represented in this fierce competition for the coveted 'Clam
Gun'." (V/C Billings)
