Heavy Weather Team Winners (Photos: Sylvia Wilson) Four Yacht Clubs were in contention for the "Team Trophy": Gig Harbor YC, Meydenbauer YC, Queen City YC and Bremerton YC. The combined total of the top four racers in each club are combined for a total score. Bremerton Yacht Club was the team winner: Members of the wining team were (from left to right): Captains Jack Hensley, Owen Ritter, Chuck Silvernail, and P/C Leo Longenecker.

The 2006 BYC Heavy Weather Predicted Log Contest will be held on Sunday, Feburary 19, 2006. The contest will be approxamately 17 miles long this year to help in the conservation of expensive marine fuel. It begins at the Manette Bridge, toures by the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, out and back in through Rich Passage and ends off Point Herron in Manette. The contest starts around 11:30am and generally finishes around 2:00 pm. Good viewing places would be the Manette Bridge, Boat Shed Resturant and Bachman Park at the foot of Trenton Ave. in East Bremerton. The contest is open to any Yacht Club members, boating organization members or any boating clubs. Registration deadline will be February 10, 2006. Registration forms and race directions and logs will be available on the Bremerton Yacht Club WEB site http://www.bremertonyachtclub.org/ or the IPBA web site: http://www.ipbalogracing.org/ around the middle of January 2006. Generally there have been over 50 yachts participating in the contest; so the harbor is filled with yachts of all sizes. OBSERVERS & OBSERVER TRAINING Observer training will be conducted by Capt Rob Bruins on Feb. 15th 2006 (Wednesday) at BYC starting as 7 pm. Anyone can be an observer and the public is invited and encouraged to participate. We need at least 60 observers. This is an opportunity for a non-boater to get a ride on a yacht and see the area from a different perspective. LETTER OF INVITATION October 30, 2005 Dear Commodore, It is my pleasure to extend to you and your members an invitation to participate in the 72st Annual Bremerton Yacht Club Heavy Weather Weekend which includes a Predicted Log Race and infamous Skit Contest. Continuing our tradition of having this celebration on the President’s Holiday Weekend, February 17 – 20, 2006, we are changing from three days to four to provide more time for each event. The Skits will still be performed on Saturday night but the race will be moved to Sunday. We are expanding our meal offerings and entertainment to include: A Friday night Wine Tasting Party Continental Breakfasts both Saturday and Sunday A Barbeque Dinner Saturday before the Skit performances Dancing to a live band Saturday and Sunday nights A Sunday Dinner before the Race awards A Full Breakfast on Monday morning In past years, we have hosted as many as 160 racers in our Heavy Weather Predicted Log Race and had standing room only during the Skit Competition. We would like to see it return to its former glory but need your help in encouraging your members, racers and non-racers, to get out on the water and compete. Our Race Chairman, P/C Leo Longenecker, 360.981.9212, will be sending out more information on the race in the near future. The Skit rules have changed to “Level the Playing Field,” simplify preparation, and minimize preliminary efforts. This year’s theme is “Sea Shanties,” but while this may give you a hint of what to plan for, you will not be given the specifics until the Saturday morning skit meeting for all participating Clubs.
