Special People's Cruise (2004)

The Holiday Special People’s Cruise for 2004 will be held on Sunday, December 5th. If you haven’t signed up for this event, please do. It’s one of the greatest opportunities we have to give something to our community, and the reward is rich in the experience of giving. In addition to Seattle SeaFair’s annual gift contribution, this year we can be particularly joyful for the financial support we’re receiving from the Kitsap Federal Credit Union. Their sponsorship has insured a warm welcome to the Special People of Kitsap County, a delightful cruise, and a warm gift that should last the winter through.

Additionally, the Kitsap Federal Credit Union will provide staffing if you choose to have someone on board to host your guests while you keep your eye on the water. When you sign up please note the number of people you can take on board, and if you would like a host to help you; but PLEASE SIGN UP!

Skippers will meet at 1530, first boarding at 1600, last boat to return at 1745, and dinner for the skippers will be in the clubhouse at 1830.

SKIPPER'S INSTRUCTIONS

Welcome to the 22^th running of the "Special Peoples Cruise". The Bremerton Yacht Club has generous community support from Kitsap Community Federal Credit Union, VFW Post # 239, ParaTransit/Access, Kitsap Harbors Tours, US Navy, Port Orchard Yacht Club and Poulsbo Yacht Club.
Thank you all for your participation.

All visiting boats are requested to arrive before 1500 (3:00 PM) on 7 Dec. Arriving Skippers should hail "BYC Harbormaster" on VHF channel 68 for moorage instructuions. Please use one watt power. Channel 68 will be used for Cruise operations only.
Bring your own life jackets and stage them outside at the north end of the Clubhouse. Note: The North end of the parking lot is reserved for Skipper's vehicles from noon thru 3:30 PM to facilitate storage of life jackets. Every Special Person should be wearing a PFD before leaving the Clubhouse area.
All skippers should check-in in the Clubhouse lounge prior to 1530 (3:30 PM). A short Skippers meeting begins at 1530 (3:30 PM).
At the check-in desk, skippers should confirm the number of Special People, if you have prior arrangements for particular group of passengers, and if you require assistance. Chaperones are available and you are encouraged to have one or more onboard. Get your nametag.
At 1530 (3:30 PM) the buses should be arriving and Special People assignments will begin for a 1600 (4:00) boarding. Skippers will line up from the lounge into the west side of the ballroom. Special people will be assembled in the east side of the ballroom.
Escort your guests out the north exit, away from the Clubhouse door and fit them with life jackets before going down the pier.
If additional assistance is needed from the Clubhouse to your boat, contact any BHS student. This year we have a good tide (about nine feet) and the brow will have minimal slope.
The lead parade boat will be the 42-foot Krogen "OUTBOUND" skippered by Capt Owen; 1st Mate Linda Ritter. OUTBOUND will leave the yacht club at 1600 (4:00 PM) or shortly thereafter and travel at about 5 knots. All boats should fall in line and follow in single file throughout the cruise. The cruise will be to Ostrich Bay and pass by an anchored, lighted Christmas ship with a waving Santa topside. Note: The VIP boat will be the "C-Pleasure" skippered by P/C Keith Conrad. The C-Pleasure will travel different routes and speeds. They are not part of the parade as they must be back early.
During the cruise there will be two radio Santa's (channel 71 & channel 69) for Special People to talk to Santa. Please use one watt power.
We discourage appetizers/drinks on board or the loaning out of anything.
On return to BYC, please moor in the same berth you had unless otherwise directed. The "BYC Harbormaster" will advise you of any changes. Again, monitor channel 68.
Upon return take your guests up the brow, stopping at Santa for Special People gifts, remove their life jackets and move them directly to the buses. If they have someone picking them up, that's okay, but if the ride is not there when we arrive back, they go on the bus! Refreshments and snacks are waiting at Westside Improvement Club sponsored by the VFW Post # 239.
All involved (skippers, VIPs, crew, volunteers, chaperone, helpers, etc) are invited to dinner in the Clubhouse at 1830 (6:30 PM).
Bring a desert or side dish.
