Changes in BYC's Calendar

From: mbdunn(at)wavecable.com
Sent: Monday, March 05, 2007 9:11 AM
Subject: Corrections needed to 2007 BYC Calendar pages

Everyone,

Please correct the published April 2007 Calendar to change the dates of
Easter and the BYC Kids Easter party. It appears that the Excel
Spreadsheet's "Calendar" feature did NOT properly include the Easter
Holiday this year.

Corrected dates for the Easter 2007 events are as follows:
Easter Sunday occurs on April 8th (not the 15th), so the BYC Kids Easter
Party will be held on April 7th instead of April 14th.

Also, please correct the March through May and the September through
December 2007 pages as follows:
The Skipperette Board Meetings on each of the above months will occur on
the Third TUESDAY at 1000, NOT on the Third Wednesday as shown.

Corrected dates for the 2008 Calendar pages are as follows:
The January 2008 Calendar should show the BYC Cruise In to Brownsville on
the 5th and 6th, NOT on the 19th and 20th

The February 2008 Calendar shows the BYC Crab Feed on both the 2nd and
3rd. Please correct it to Feb 2nd only.

The BYC Calendar for March 2008 does show Easter on March 23rd.
However, please add the "BYC Kids Easter Party" on March 22nd as a
correction.

The August 2008 Calendar should show the Grand XIV Officers Cruise In to
BYC for three days, August 10th through 12th.

Not sure at this date if the Skipperette Board Meetings in 2008 will be
on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Need to hear back from the Skipperettes.

Thank you,

Mike Dunn

SPAM EVERYWHERE

Over the last few months, the onslaught of SPAM in the Email of many of us has increased beyond belief. Those BYC members whose Email address or alias address (e.g. ) have been published on the open BYC Web page are particularly affected. Unfortunately, we thus had to make the decision to be more secretive about our direct or indirect Email addresses. This had to include the address of BYC's WebTeam. From now on, the hosting company of our Web Site (Telebyte NorthWest) has deactivated all of BYC's alias addresses. Thus, Email to the bycwebteam@bremertonyachtclub.org will no longer be forwarded to the members of the WebTeam. Similar alias addresses existed for most officers of the Club. They also will not work any longer. We also will make an effort to delete all personal Email addresses in the open/public pages of the BYC Web Site. Please use the personal Email addresses of officers and the WebTeam as you find them in the password-protected Registered Membership Directory of the Members-Only page or in the Annual. If want to reach the WebTeam, contact Dave Uebele for technical questions or requests or Gunter Krumme for Web-content related questions and contributions (or send your Email to both Dave & Gunter). Alternatively, you may want to send your Email to the Club Store (Manager Jim Busse) with a forwarding request.

Telebyte N.W., our hosting company, is very concerned about SPAM. It recently send us an announcement which you may be interested to read.*

Thanks for your understanding.

22 BYC Members graduate from
MEDIC First Aid Training Program

18 November 2006: 22 BYC Members successfully completed the "Basic Plus" class of the MEDIC First Aid Training Programs. The class included training in CPR, the use of AEDs (Defibrillators) and "First Aid for Adults". The excellent 6-hour class was conducted by Eric Moore (with Assistant) from the Mason County Fire District #5 and organized by our very own Paul Smith (who also happens to be the spouse of BYC Surgeon Betty Smith).

All BYC members intending to have an accident or heart attack on BYC's premises in the near future are advised to find out who these 22 members are, since they will not wear big red crosses on their foreheads. Alternatively, other members may want to persuade Paul to organize this most useful event again or are encouraged to take a similar class elsewhere or to visit appropriate Web pages on the Internet.

Members are reminded that BYC has presently two AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators):

  • One is stationed on the wall in BYC Lounge on the left hand side of the glass doors leading to the Waterfront Deck
  • The other is stationed on the Fleet Surgeon Vessel (currently, Ix Chel, B-String, Shed 321), to be available on Club Cruises [which means Ix Chel attends all BYC Cruises or turns the unit over to Fleet Captain]

  • New resuscitation procedure proves to be a real lifesaver Seattle Times, By Warren King Wednesday, December 13, 2006
You have a better chance than ever of surviving cardiac arrest in King County, thanks to a new resuscitation procedure now practiced by all medics here.

The survival rate has increased to 46 percent from 33 percent during the years 2002 through 2004 — an all-time high.[...]

The new procedure emphasizes more cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combined with the electric shocks given to restore the heart to its normal rhythm. Before 2005, medics applied shocks as many as three times before giving any CPR, compressing the chest and breathing air into the lungs. Now the procedure is to give one shock followed quickly by two minutes of CPR, then repeat.....
