I'm sure the subject will be covered by both the Commodore and the Vice Commodore, but in case you skip
over their columns and jump right to mine, I'd like to remind everyone that it won't be long before
BYC's Heavy Weather Weekend (February 13-15) will be upon us. In preparation for that, there
will be
a Work Party on the preceding weekend, February 7-8. Capt. Sherwood, our Work Party Chair,
has
a
sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board in the lounge, so please sign up for one or both days, if
you can make it. As I write this column, the length of the list of members who have signed up is not
too impressive. As you know, we're a volunteer oriented club, so even if you have your required 16
hours of work party time in, it won't hurt to do some more, and the club will benefit greatly by your
generosity. If you happen to have a pressure washer and are willing to let it be used and/or are
willing to operate it yourself, please let Capt. Sherwood know. There is much to be accomplished so
we present our club in the best possible condition for our visitors and guests.
With regard to the actual weekend of
Heavy Weather, there are many opportunities to help out
during the event. For starters, please limit vehicles to only ONE per family, as parking is at a
premium for the entire weekend. For those new members who haven't been involved in this weekend, it's
a great way to increase your service point totals, as well as meet fellow members whom you might not
yet know. There are many committees (fire watch, setting up and removing timbers, skit, to name a
few) for which you might want to volunteer. Don't hesitate to contact a member of the Bridge, your
sponsor, a Committee Chair, or just about anyone around the club for more information. Get
involved! You'll have a lot of fun.
