Opening Day was a blast! The weather was warm, sunny and not too breezy. What an incredibly fun way to kick off the summer. We had fourteen boats on the lake and 35 people enjoying the festivities. Rumor has it that the theme for next year may be "Legends of Rock & Roll" with an opportunity for a return of Elvis!
Elections were held May 7th. Congratulations to all the newly elected officers and committee chairs. There are still some committees in need of chairs and members. Executive Committee meetings (next one is June 11) are a great way to see how club business is conducted and to talk with E-committee members about how to get involved.
The installation of Officers on Fri, May 18th was well attended and a very memorable event. Thank you to all who helped organize, decorate and cook. It is an event that Susan & I will remember for a long time.
The Memorial Day Cruise to Oro Bay is fresh in everyone's mind. Tom (& Hillary) Obenchain, the new Fleet Captain spent a lot of time planning, organizing, and preparing for this big, traditional event. Make sure you say thanks to them for their inaugural event as the new Fleet Captain.

June events include the Commodore Ball on June 2nd, a very highly anticipated event, rivaled only by the Christmas Dinner, leads the parade of June events. The Saikkonens, with Stacy Longenecker as the chair, have been working this for months to make it a very special event. It will be a grand event honoring the now Past Commodore John Burwell and his First Mate, Nina. We will be finishing the Burwell's three years in style and honoring them in a memorable way.
The next day, June 3rd, B-string will be hosting the annual B-String Party with a Beach Party theme. Pray for sunny, warm weather for viewing of the decorated boats and sheds. Nena Andrews is taking questions pertaining to that event.
Saturday, June 16 is the Parking Lot Sale. Find a new treasure/gem that someone no longer has need of. This is a great way to save money on some hard to find nautical items. Others can let go of those treasured items that you don't need more than the space they occupy in your boat, boatshed, or garage.
The first Picnic in the Park event is WED June 20. Be ready for Fiesta time. Street Tacos are expected to be the main attraction. Hosted by Rear Commodore Bill and Ramona Karwacki.
The biggest club event of the summer is the Big Brother Cruise, FRI 6/22- SUN 6/24. Queen City Yacht Club, known as our Big Brother, because of their assistance in founding the club in 1929, is coming for a weekend of fun at BYC. This is an every-other year event at BYC and is being planned by the Fleet Captain to be packed with cruise like events. Plan for the weekend and come meet/visit with Queen City members. Watch the Bridge Officers demonstrate their sailing skills. Participate in the fast, exciting, tactically challenging dinghy races. We get to enjoy without getting underway!
