Spring is here! After a very notable Heavy Weather February, it was nice to have some pleasant cruising weather and some active BYC cruising events as we move towards our prime cruising season ahead. Our Fleet Captains Dick and Carrie Haney pulled together another great cruise-in, this time to the Bremerton Marina for the St. Patrick's weekend. Meanwhile, our intrepid predicted log racers made a fine showing at both the Meydenbauer Bay Boomerang and Tacoma Jack Hyde navigation contests, bringing home the team trophy from Jack Hyde. It is great to see so many BYC boats out this time of year!
Off the Bow
The Spring Yachting events kick into high gear with both the Daffodil and Opening Day events. The Daffodil theme this year is "Traditions in Bloom." BYC would like to follow-up their great Daffodil performance last year, having taken top awards with their Decorated Boat and second in the Flagship category, with another knockout showing. A big thanks to Stacy and PC Leo Longenecker for making this all come together, to Tom and Hillary Obenchain for allowing us to decorate their boat, and PC Mike and Billie Henry for providing Peachy Keen as the Flagship for the BYC bridge.
Also, be sure to get signed up for the Seattle Opening Day party on the Docks at our Big Brother, Queen City Yacht Club. We'll have boats going over as early as Wednesday May 3rd to get the party on early. And more thanks to Steve and Deanna Brett for again taking the bridge on Ocean Jewel through the Opening Day parade.
Spring is also the time of concluding a lot of business to set the stage for BYC's future years. We will have eight By-Law and Regulation changes to consider in the first April meeting. They are all posted in this issue of the Towline. We also will see the initial slate of officers brought forward for election by our nominating chair PC Don Park. We will also be presented a recommended budget for both next year's operations as well as for improvement and major maintenance projects at the second April meeting. Elections and budget approval are slated for the first May meeting. Please take the time to read through the proposed changes in this Towline and to consider the budgets and candidates to be presented. Your informed votes will help us find the best course forward for the club.
