October got us well into fall in great form. Many thanks to Jytte and Bob Wheeler for another splendid Oktoberfest. The clubhouse was packed, the food was great, and the music really got you in a very fun, enjoyable mood. Thank you Jytte and your dedicated crew again for what continues to be one of the favorite events of the BYC year.
Nina and I had a very full weekend participating in both the Port Orchard Yacht Club Fall Round-Up predicted log race and Day Island Yacht Club Junior Officer Ball. Throw in thirty knot winds and the occasional torrential downpour, and I think we saw everything that weekend. We enjoyed the Friday night social at POYC before taking on the weather Saturday along with the Henry’s, Randall’s, and Jim Van Antwerp assisted by new member Scott Weninger. It was great to see four BYC boats out there.
After the race, Nina and I headed to DIYC to join VC Dan and Rose Saikkonen for the “Shoot Out at the Day Island Saloon.” It was a great night of fun with our classmates and a great Chuck Wagon dinner and dance put on by DIYC (however, there were way too many sheriffs in town). And this time, Dan didn’t go overboard this time like he did buying a Harley before the "Bad Boys and Biker Chicks” at the last JO Ball!
As we roll into November, it is time to gear up for the Holidays. We will start it off with the Clubhouse decorating party on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving (22 November). I’ll need a small crew to pull the Christmas decorations out of the various storage sites and get it all to the ball room in advance. Then on Sunday, Flo Floyd will guide the hanging, decorating and trimming throughout. We’ll get started at noon and have enough pizza and soda to keep us going until done. Sign-up sheets will be posted. Please come and enjoy the fun.
On 27 November there will be an Apple Cup Party. I assume for this that we will give the Coug’s the deck while the Huskies get the lounge with the big screen TV!
December will bring the full slate of Christmas activities that we have enjoyed each year. We will begin with the Family Christmas potluck on Friday, 4 December. Bring a wrapped and clearly labeled for your child, grandchild or loved one. Potluck starts at 1730 and Santa will arrive to hand out presents at 1845.
We will follow this up with the Special People’s Cruise on Sunday the 6th, Christmas Dinner on Sunday the 13th, and the Lighted Boat Parade on the 18th and 19th. And finally, we will “un-decorate” the club after Christmas with pizza and soda again provided. Mark all of these on your calendars and watch for flyers with more information and sign-up sheets.
