As I write this month’s Towline article, we are fresh on the heels of a great BYC week. Many thanks and congratulations to Skipperette’s President Linda Ritter, Vice-President Susan LeBas, and their team, and even the Skupperettes(!) who pulled together an outstanding Women’s Inter-Club luncheon and program. As previously noted by the Commodore, not only were the decorations and meal excellent, the program was truly inspirational as two local women, Lisa Stirrett and Rosie Ludlow, described their separate ventures to assist women in need, both afar and locally. This event showed the best of what BYC can be and the many visiting women were lavish in their praise.
Also recently completed (and survived!) was the Daffodil weekend hosted by Tacoma Yacht Club. What an event! The weather was spectacular and the turnout even better. Thank you to CAPT Phil Mhoon and his able bodied crew of Dominic and Giovanni. They were great hosts to our bridge and first mates aboard Luna III. And it was great to see a strong BYC contingent aboard Ocean Jewel at the end of the parade route. And then for Nina and I, it was off to Oro Bay for a few days before returning to Gig Harbor for a Predicted Log Race the following weekend. What a way to start the summer!
As Commodore Murray points out, we have a very busy May ahead of us on all fronts. I look forward to seeing you all around during this time, both in helping move our club forward through several important business meetings and events, and also enjoying the spectacular boating and fellowship at the various cruising events. And then there will be June with our Commodore’s Ball and Big Brother Cruise In. More fun!
Take care, and Safe Boating,
R/C John Burwell
