Reports from the Bridge

Oct 2013

The first General Membership meeting of the year was well attended with 57 members signing in. Marilyn Adair also won the first "Fishbowl" drawing of the year. Not a bad way to start the meeting year.

Club stewards Nena Andrews and Rose Saikkonen treated the members to some wonderful chocolate chip cookies and brownie bites. I had to cut myself off at four cookies and six brownie bites. Nice job, Nena and Rose.

The Friday night social held September 20th was a huge hit. Upwards of 80 persons attended on what was almost a spontaneous event. PC Haustveit gave it good press at the General Meeting and followed that with an email blast flyer. Originally billed as 5-8PM there was still a contingent there when Ruth and I left at 10:00PM. Good food, good time, good friends. Thank you Darin and Nancy Haustveit. Is this a great club or what?!

I will miss the always much anticipated Oktoberfest, scheduled this year for October 4th, due to a previous commitment. Bob and Jytte Wheeler have this event really dialed in so be sure to sign up. I will also miss the next General Membership meeting on October 7th. Ruth and I will be in Annapolis, Maryland for my US Naval Academy 40th reunion. This will be only the second time I have been back to Annapolis in 40 years. However, Ruth and I plan to represent Bremerton Yacht Club by attending the Annapolis Power Boat Show and the Sailboat show while there.

Plan on a breakfast Sunday November 17, same day as the PC log race. This event is chaired by the ever energetic and ever enthusiastic couple of Leo (PCx2) and Stacy Longenecker.

With Christmas just around the corner plan on a Club decorating party Sunday, November 24 at 1200. Pizza and soda will be provided. The annual Chritsmas tree trimming party will be held Friday, December 6th. Arrival time is 5:30PM and the pot luck dinner begins at 6:15PM. Rumor has it that Santa will arrive about 6:45PM. If you have a gift for Santa to present to your loved one or friend please be sure it is wrapped and clearly labeled with the recipients name.

Adding to the December activities is the lighted boat parade, again December 20 and 21.

A hole that will need filling is that of the Audio Visual chair. Gary Williams has performed his duties in a consistent and outstanding manner for several years but he has served notice that he is moving on. Please contact Gary or me about that important position. Thanks.
