Reports from the Bridge

Mar 2013

The greatest mistake a person can make is to be afraid of making one.
Elbert Hubbard

Most of our Members were recently surveyed by telephone for information in support of the deliberations of the Marina Finance Committee. This was not a small task with so many people to call but 14 of our Members volunteered on the spot at the January 7th General Membership Meeting to do so. I want to thank Bev Bruins, John Burwell, Charlotte Dorshkind, Lee Anne Derror, Abbie Dunn, Paula Lewis, Phil Mhoon, Laurie Payne, Dianne Robinson, Rose Saikkonen, Norm Smith, Joan Vehrs, JD Weiner, Bob Wheeler and Jytte Wheeler for taking the time to personally contact (or attempt to contact) all of the Members for their input. Your efforts and the results of the survey will most certainly provide valuable insight needed to make the best decisions for the good of the Club.

Crystal and I got our 2013 Bridge obligations off to a good start by attending the Poulsbo Yacht Club’s J.O. Ball the 8th, 9th and 10th of February. While this was just the 5th in the series of 14, they just seem to get better with each Ball we attend and we can’t wait for the next one scheduled which will be held at the Seattle Yacht Club. With the Poulsbo event’s theme of “Happily Ever After”, we attended costumed as Gomez and Morticia Addams playing off the link that our Grand 14 Class of 2015 song is sung to the melody of the Addams Family theme song. Your Bridge (or, rather, a portion of your Bridge) hard at work!

One of the favorite events for Club Members’ kids every year is the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Once again, this event will be chaired by our very own Easter Egg Hunt expert Jo Carr. The “Hunt” will be conducted on the Clubhouse grounds on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 1300 to 1500 (1:00 to 3:00). So get your kids ready, get signed up and come on down to the Club to let your kids have a blast looking for candy filled eggs, playing with the Easter Bunny and many other fun and rewarding activities!

As previously mentioned, Crystal and I will be attending the Seattle Yacht Club’s Jr. Officers’ Ball the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of February. In keeping with Seattle’s tradition, this will be a black tie affair so we will all be dressed to the nines and will no doubt be treated like royalty. Once again…your Bridge hard at work!
