Dec 2012

Can it really be the Holiday Season already? I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. I know that Bev cherishes the Holiday Season with its opportunities to get together with family and friends. That includes of course our BYC family and we have many events on the calendar we can share with each other. We start off the month with the Special Peoples Cruise on Sunday, December 2nd. This event will put you in the Christmas spirit by giving us the opportunity to brighten the day of others and then getting together for a dinner to thank all those that make the event possible. Vice Commodore Ryan is once again chairing the Special Peoples event and looks forward to everyone getting involved. On Friday evening, December 7th will be the Family Christmas Party and Rear Commodore Norton will preside over this fun family event. The event that the entire community looks forward to is the Lighted Boat Parade. We start getting inquiries in the summer so people can plan their parties, plan on being part of the parade on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th. Our annual Christmas Dinner will be on Sunday, December 16th. I hope you will be present as our Officers and Committee Chairs serve up this traditional dinner prepared here in the BYC galley by your fellow members. Following the dinner we will be entertained this year by the Jaybirds, barbershop quartet group. Additional information on all these events can be found on our BYC home page and on flyers through out the clubhouse.

It was good to see so many new and seasoned members turn out for the New Members Night event. Thanks go out to Jan Cordodor and committee for that successful event.

John Burwell has agreed to be your new Regatta for Power chairman. If you see John around the club thank him for stepping up and ask how you can get involved at some level with upcoming navigational contests.

The behind the scenes committee work at BYC continues to amaze me. The Marina Investment group lead by Bob Lewis is getting close to bring some options before the membership regarding our aging “A” string docks. The Club House Planning group lead by Lynne Rumbold has come up with a conceptual plan for the apartment revision and actions for acoustical improvements in the meeting hall. Please take the time to become aware of what these committees are doing so we can have informed discussions when it comes time to make some decisions.

Bev and I hope you all have a most “Joyous and Happy Holiday Season” and look forward to seeing you at the upcoming BYC events.

Hope to see you around the Club,
Rob Bruins
