Reports from the Bridge

Nov 2012

New Memberís Night is the major social event we have coming up in November. Please come out and welcome the folks from the twenty five or so new memberships we have obligated since the last New Memberís Night. Iím sure Vice Commodore Ryan will fill you in on the details. Also, the holiday season is quickly sneaking up so you will want to keep up-to-date with all the events that Rear Commodore Norton will be coordinating.

We have had a number of members that have stepped up to help out while our Secretary/Fleet Captain Paula Lewis has been away visiting family in Dubayy, United Arab Emirates. Thanks goes out to Past Commodore Darin Haustveit, Lynne Rumbold and Alice Nelson for serving as acting secretary and getting the minutes posting in such a timely manner. Also thank you to Donna Park and Bev Bruins for co-chairing the Halloween Cruise to Brownsville and acting as cruise chairs.

Our Regatta for Sail Chairman, Jay Spearman, has been meeting regularly with a group of our sailors and is working on scheduling a number of informational events that Iím sure will be of interest to many of our members, not just sailors. Watch for Jayís announcements of talks and seminars and take advantage of these learning opportunities. Speaking of learning opportunities, Bev and I recently completed the United States Power Squadronís Americaís Boating Course taught here at BYC by our own Kevin Pisani and Jean Muenzenberger. The course was very informative and the Bremerton Sail & Power Squadron offers several other courses that may help you enjoy your overall boating experience. Donít forget there will be a Fueling Training course presented on November 3rd for those of you wishing to be able to pump your own fuel at our dock.

Congratulations to now two time Past Commodore (PC2?) Leo Longenecker upon his again being obligated into the Past Commodoreís Club. Thank you to Leo and Stacy for representing BYC so well these past few years.

We all join BYC with the best intentions of being an active, contributing member. There are a number of standing committees here at the Club that could use help. Ask a bridge officer or Executive Committee member how you can get involved and we will find an appropriate committee for you to join.

Bev and I have enjoyed our first two Commodoreís Balls and have three more before Christmas. It has been a lot of fun to get to know not only the immediate officers of the Grand Fourteen but also their Past Commodores and memberships.

Hope to see you around the Club,

Rob Bruins
