Did you know that it's impossible to have both a positive and negative attitude at the same time? It's true. So, if you have a choice (and we all do) wouldn't you rather be positive?

One reason we enjoy our camaraderie at the BYC is because we're surrounded by so many good natured, positive people. People who mean well, people who care to serve, and people who like other people. Their behavior reflects in friendliness, unselfish deeds, and in an open mind; allowing them to see the good in others and in the overall welfare of the club.

I have so many favorites... certainly all those who have signed up to support the bridge as flag officers, social chairs, special event chairs, and miscellaneous chairs. We also have executive committee members and the many chairs who serve them. This club is very fortunate to have so many who mean so well.

Sometimes even "good" people have a difficult time with the actions of others. They think they are being constructive in their criticisms of others but before you know it, they unwittingly find themselves guilty of disparaging another person's character.

Next time you're tempted to say something about someone, ask yourself these three questions:

1. Is it true and is it based on fact?

2. Will saying it be helpful to those involved?

3. What is your motivation for saying it? Are you trying to uplift someone or hoping to drag them down?

Attention to these three little questions will help you in all aspects of your life.

I wish to applaud Maralee Ormiston, our Fleet Captain for once again putting on a great cruise to Bell Harbor. This is typically one of our favorites with a boat ride to the big city, but on this occasion our attendance was required at the Commodore's Ball in Olympia. Denise, in all her glamour, made us proud!

Thanksgiving is coming up. What a great time of year to count your blessings! Please, take a little time to remember those who are less fortunate than you and find a reason to "pay it forward." You’ll be glad you did.

Christmas is just around the corner and we have the Special People's Cruise, the Lighted Boat Parade, and Christmas Dinner all coming up in early December. Be sure to watch the bulletin board and our website for upcoming announcements.

Denise and I wish you our boating best!
