Our most important social event is coming up this month on President’s Day weekend, The Heavy Weather Predicted Log Race! I say “social” because aside from this being the largest predicted log race in the world, it is also our largest social activity with guests coming from all over Puget Sound to join us in the fun! We expect to see upwards of 200 participants at this event.

It will start Friday evening with a Wine Tasting Party to include heavy hors d’oeuvres; log racing on Saturday; tapping the keg Saturday afternoon; dinner Saturday evening; skits and a special appearance by the Dockettes; and dancing to live music Saturday night. Then Sunday morning we’ll have a full breakfast including eye openers and the awarding of race trophies. And the best news of all is this whole extravaganza will only cost $38; less if you don’t attend all the events. Please see the enclosed flyer.

Our new members are our most important asset. They are the future of the BYC!

Amongst our new members are our future bridge officers and executive committee members. They will be the ones to host tomorrow’s social events, work committees, and club cruises. And they will do this for the same reason we do… because we have found a yacht club that provides reasonable moorage and enjoyable people to work and play with.

This doesn’t happen automatically. It happens when we provide a friendly environment and demonstrate that doing “your share plus a little” can actually be fun. Being friendly means reaching out to invite new members onto your work committees, your cruises, and your social events. It means being a responsible sponsor and a willing mentor. And when it’s all said and done, it means being a positive representative through active participation, good stewardship, and good citizenship. The club appreciates all our members who do this, there are many!

Safe Boating to All,

Commodore John and First Mate Denise Rosendale
