This year is about complete, and with that there will be a new Bridge to carry the members through the social side of the club for 2009-10. I would like to invite all members to attend the Installation of Officers that is slated for May 15, 2009. The night of festivities will be: 1800-1900 appetizers with beverages provided, then at 1900 the Installation program will commence. There will be a few added agenda items to the event; along with the cake cutting, you are invited down to the docks to join the Bridge on their boats for drinks, food and the raising of the flags.

At the time of writing this, Daffodil has not happened but, as in the past, BYC will be there with a decorated entry and maybe bring home a trophy; with that said, "doing" these events is mainly about getting together with fellow boaters and members to have a fun weekend away.

My wife Donna is looking into having a club store with various types of clothing and novelty items; if you have any items that you would like to see carried in the store or if you would like to help please contact Donna by e-mail

I would like to remind you to please continue to access the BYC website and see what event is happening at your club and if there may be something you and your family would like to participate in. I would like this to be an active members club, not a moorage club. The Rear Commodore has an article that will elaborate on the social calendar.

    Points to ponder:

It is estimated that 71,644,000 people in the U. S. participated in recreational boating.

60% of the children (under the age of 12) that died while boating weren't wearing life jackets.

Of the 481 drownings, 416 could have been prevented with use of a life jacket.

80% of fatalities occurred on boats where the operator had not completed a boating safety course.

84% of PWC operators received no boating instruction

46% of boaters in a survey support a PFD requirement for children age 12 and under, and 29% for children age 6 and under.

    Thanks for Reading
