    I find it hard to believe that my Rear Commodore year is coming to an end. Although it has often been at times challenging and frustrating (as the "Who Dats" always know what to do), I can honestly say that it has been rewarding and fun. The interaction with Club members and the friendships made with the Rear Commodores from the Grand 14 have been fun.

    As election time for BYC offices approaches I hope as many of you that are able will think about serving on committees, offices or as chairpersons for the upcoming year. The support you will receive when you sign on for a committee or other function is tremendous. It is a great opportunity in many ways. If anyone has questions or just wants to find out more information about getting involved, just ask. Co-chairing and sharing responsibilities makes volunteering more fun and when the duties are spread among members, less time commitment than you might think is involved.

    A reminder, only one more scheduled Work Party in May -- the dates of 17th and 18th -- before the end of the fiscal year. If you don't have your hours of work party time completed, time is passing quickly. Contact Capt. Norm Smith , the Work Party Chair, and make arrangements to fulfill your obligation. There are still lots of projects to complete before the summer cruising season arrives.

    Sylvia is sending a final call for the Annual (deadline 30 June): I ask that everyone please take a few minutes to check this year's Annual to make sure that all your information is up to date including not only your address to include e-mail and telephone numbers, but also pictures of you and your boat

    Another reminder - as the cruising season approaches, and the ice machine gets more use, don't forget to fill "two for one" for the freezer. Be considerate of your fellow members.

    Now that we start a new year of boating and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Pacific Northwest , I wish you 'Fair Winds' and 'Smooth Sailing'. Please watch your wake, particularly when transiting the whole area of Port Washington Narrows.

    Points to Ponder: Do you remember when,

    All girls had ugly uniforms, 45 rpm records, green stamps, metal ice cube trays with levers, Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside, decisions were made by going eeny-meeny-miney-moe, Your mom wore nylons that came in two pieces, It took five minutes for the TV to warm up, oly -oly-oxen-free made perfect sense Newsreels before the movie, telephone party lines, clove chewing gum, candy cigarettes, Hula hoops, blackjack, and finally, baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.
