Heavy Weather: With the sun shining, today, I am reminded of what a beautiful weekend we had for Heavy Weather Weekend. Spending the weekend with members and visitors from the Grand XIV clubs was really fun and something we are fortunate to have the opportunity to do every year. Boats, captains and family came in all through the weekend from Queen City, Tacoma, Day Island, Port Orchard, Gig Harbor and Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Clubs, among others. I am already looking forward to next year when hopefully we will have even greater participation. A big thank you goes to V/C Ron Morse for coordinating the weekend.

Also, I want to thank all of the members who worked so hard to make every event memorable. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast served by the skipperettes March 12th complete with a great variety of sweet and savory breakfast dishes. Jenny and I will be attending a Viva Las Vegas themed junior officer’s Ball this weekend at Tyee Yacht Club, so in our absence we wish you all a great Ide’s of March Cruise February 17 through 19th.

Be sure and have a pint of green beer if you can. As election time for BYC offices approaches I hope as many of you that are able will think about serving on committees, offices or as chairpersons for the upcoming year. The support you will receive when you sign on for a committee or other function is tremendous. It is a great opportunity in many ways. If anyone has questions or just wants to find out more information about getting involved, just ask. Co-chairing and sharing responsibilities makes volunteering more fun and when the duties are spread among members, less time commitment than you might think is involved.

I will be there on Monday March 20th for our meeting to greet the Seattle Yacht Club team to fill us in on the festivities for Opening Day the first weekend in May. Hope to see you at the meeting. After that next on the Agenda is a work party at the club. Time flies when you get out and work around the club, and in addition to bettering our club, you will earn points and as an extra bonus, the Skipperretes support the work parties, too. Also, keep in mind Daffodil weekend commences April 22ndat TYC and this promises to be a fun community event. I am looking forward to getting together with members and as always your ideas and feedback are appreciated.

Best Regards, Don Hardgrove
