Message Relay from Recreational Boating Association of Washington.

Boaters,
State Parks is planning to add power and water to the docks at Blake Island as an optional benefit for boaters. Below is a hearing notice from Kitsap County for the development permit and shoreline use permit to complete the project. The hearing is on August 10th and comments must be received prior that date. If you support this idea, it would be helpful to comment either in person or via e-mail to Patty Charnas of the Kitsap County Dept. of Community Development: PCharnas@co.kitsap.wa.us.

We understand that hooking up to power on the docks will be optional and incur an extra charge, although the cost is yet to be determined by Parks. Clearly if you don't want power, you won't have to plug in, but this could make the docks at Blake nicer, quieter, and safer, especially in the winter months. During the winter, many people run both portable and built in generators (for heating & charging) on their boats docked at Blake. Some of these generators are noisy, smelly, and dangerous. A few years ago, we know of a couple that had to be med-evacuated off the Island because of Carbon Monoxide poisoning resulting from their gas generator. It was a near death experience and long recuperation for one of the victims. Note: The above is my personal observation and own opinion and not particularly that of RBAW's. Hearing info is below - feel free to submit your own opinions.
Thanks,
David Kutz
RBAW President

Did you know that the docks at Blake Island State Park are now the nightly play- and feeding grounds for racoons? These "lovely" nocturnal creatures are not just roaming the docks, but are actually boarding boats in search of an easy meal, including opening unlocked ice chests, carrying whole bags with dog food off the boat.... i.e. even from boats with dogs.
